April 2018

Dear Pet Lover,

Welcome to the inaugural Guardian’s Best Animal Rescue Foundation newsletter.

At the start of each month, we share the latest news and upcoming events in the animal rescue world across Ontario and Quebec and tell you about some of the animals looking for forever homes.

If you have anything to share, email us at

In Quebec, Bill 128 is heating up. The Quebec National Assembly has started hearings on Bill 128 that would ban certain breeds of dogs, including pitbulls and rottweilers.

Meanwhile, the sister of Christiane Vadnais. who was mauled to death in her east-end Montreal backyard by a pit bull-type dog in 2016, supports Bill 128. However, the Montreal SPCA opposes it.

In the Maritimes, Nova Scotia has become the first province to ban medically

unnecessary cat declawing.

More than 25,000 people have signed a petition calling for an animal abuse registry in Canada. Sign it here. Also, over 135,000 have added their names to a petition demanding the federal government ban the sale of all alphabet ivory. Sign it here.

Refuge Kitty Kat Rescue's online auction continues through April 15.

Animatch hosts its second annual Paws & Pray Bazaar fundraiser April 8, and its Pasta for Pups dinner and auction fundraiser April 20.

Rosie Animal Adoption celebrates its 16th anniversary April 14. All are welcome.

In Montreal, our first annual NDG Pet Fair takes place June 9 at the Monkland Community Centre.

CAA Rescue, Refuge Kitty Kat Rescue, Cause 4 Paws Feline Rescue, and Loulou’s Rescue

will be among the rescues at the event.
