When life gives you a lemon

She’s the sweetest Lemon you’ll ever meet, according to her owner, Taylor Remez. Lemon, who is a mixed breed, was adopted from Canine Haven Rescue in 2017, and immediately fit right into Taylor’s life. Read on to find out more about the adoption process, Lemon’s school trips, and the funniest parts of Lemon’s personality.
How old is Lemon, and how long have you had her?
Lemon is 3.5-half-years-old right now! She was eleven months old when I got her, and it will be three years of having her this coming September. I actually stumbled upon her on Petfinder, and it took me to Canine Haven’s website.
What was the adoption process like?
The process was smooth, but very in-depth. I had to send photos of my home and yard, and provide references.
What was the adjustment period like when you first adopted her?
I got very lucky with her. When Lemon arrived from Mexico, I picked her up from the airport, and she fit right in. She ran around my backyard, rolled in the grass, and loved meeting my family. She was always so happy and loving, and still has that same awesome personality!
She seems to be a super happy dog. Was she like that when you first adopted her? Did it take time for her real personality to come out?
She pees a little when she gets super excited, and she hates when people raise their voice, and gets very upset. Lemon’s a sensitive soul.
What’s she like at the park?
She’s so funny at the park. When I take her to off leash areas, she either ignores other dogs and goes to all the people for love, or finds one or two dogs to run crazy zoomies with.
What’s the most rewarding thing about being a rescue mom?
The most rewarding part is definitely seeing how happy and calm she is at home with me. Seeing her go from a skinny, malnourished street pup to full grown and healthy has been amazing!
The best part about having her is the constant love. She’s so happy to see me when I get home, whether I’ve been gone five minutes or five hours. She knows when I need her and is always happy to snuggle and give kisses. She keeps me calm and always makes me smile (even when she wakes me at 4 a.m. because she’s decided it’s breakfast time!).

Does she love everyone, or does she gravitate towards the extroverts or shy, sensitive introverts?
She loves to play, but when it comes down to it, she’ll gravitate towards calmer personalities and sit with them/snuggle up.
Have you ever brought her to school with you?
I did! The students loved her and she loved it too. Once I started teaching full time, I couldn’t bring her anymore.
The best advice would be to be patient. The process can be intense and time consuming, but it is 100 per cent worth it!
