Our mission

Dear animal lover,

Thank you for visiting our website! As a Canadian not-for-profit organization, our mission is to raise funds for local animal rescues. Since 2012, we have raised funds to help rescues buy food and supplies, pay for vet bills, and implement a trap neuter-and-spay program for cats. We are dedicated volunteers who believe every pet should have a loving and caring home.

The Guardian’s Best Animal Rescue Foundation is also dedicated to celebrating people who have adopted their pets. This is why we started the Rescue Heroes campaign. As seen on our Instagram page, we honour people who have adopted their pets, reducing the stigma surrounding pet adoption.

We also host Party 4 Paws in downtown Toronto, and it has become our largest fundraising event of the year. Other fundraising efforts include a Be Kind to Animals pin, fridge magnets, and t-shirts.  Here is a short list of rescues we've helped:

A tail of a full house

A full house is a dog in every room, according to Hilary Abbey. The Burlington, Ont. school principal and rescue mom already has three dogs, and is thinking about a fourth. Read about two of her dogs’ adoptions from Ozzie to the Rescue Canada, what she learned about herself as a pet owner, and advice she has for potential adopters.

I first learned about Hank, who is approximately 11-years-old and is a Chihuahua/Jack Russell mix, when I saw him in the pet store. He was the store dog, and when I inquired about him, I was told one of the pet store workers was fostering him and that he was looking for a forever home. It was one of those moments where I KNEW he was meant for our family. We applied to Ozzie to adopt Hank, we were approved, and in January 2020, he came home with us the following week. Hank, from what we know, had an elderly man as his owner in South Carolina. He was not fed well, and as a result, he became unhealthy. The elderly man couldn’t afford to feed Hank or his sister Speckles, and they were surrendered to the local shelter.

Polo to the rescue

Moira-Christelle Ghazal thought she was rescuing her dog, Polo. It turns out, it was the other way around. We found out more about Moira’s life with her 4-year-old lab mix, what makes Polo special, and how he has given Moira more than she knew she needed.

We first learned about Polo when we applied for another dog named Oscar, but the family who gave him up decided at the last minute to take him back.

We asked Niagara Dog Rescue for a dog who had been at the rescue for a while and didn't have an easy chance of finding a home, so they showed us Polo. Hint: In August 2019, we got exactly what we asked for.
